Audience members of a music concert were forced to evacuate an arena just one song into the event.

Black Stone Cherry and The Darkness played a co-headline show at the M&S Bank Arena on Sunday (January 29) night.

However, just a short time after the concert commenced, visitors had to evacuate due to safety precautions.

According to Cheryl Mullin of the Liverpool Echo who was present at the concert, the house lights of the arena turned on after the first song of the show which was followed by a message stating: "There is an emergency in the building, please leave by the nearest exit".

The urgent message was then relayed to the concertgoers as the band's microphones were cut off.

While the band put their instruments down, The Darkness' lead singer Justin Hawkins made his way to the front of the stage as he gestured to the fans to leave.

Cheryl said while the crowd remained upbeat despite the temporary end to the show, there were some people who were "a bit bewildered" at what had just occurred.

According to the Echo, there was a part-evacuation of the arena purely as a safety precaution which was subsequently resolved as the audience was allowed to return back to the arena to enjoy the rest of the show.

There was just over 20 minutes between the alarm sounding and the show restarting. It took 20 minutes for the concertgoers to return amid the evacuation.

The Darkness certainly saw the funny side to the situation as once they returned to the stage, they apologised for the interference, joking that they had "blown the f****** roof off".
