A security guard at a Denver business is in custody for investigation of first-degree murder after a shooting.
The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. Monday in the 1400 block of Uinta Street, according to the Denver Police Department.
Officers found a man who was shot about a block away, police said. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Dante Pacheco-Rodriguez, 23, a security guard at Lempira Restaurant, has been arrested on investigation of first-degree murder, police said. He is in custody at the Denver jail.
When officers arrived at the business, they found Pacheco-Rodriguez in the parking lot. He was bleeding from the head and told officers he had been assaulted, according to an arrest affidavit. Investigators determined there was a fight in the lounge and it spilled outside into the parking lot.
Pacheco-Rodriguez allegedly fired shots at a pickup truck, behind which five people had taken “cover”, according to the affidavit. The five got into the truck and it drove off, but stopped a short time later. The victim who died at the hospital was found inside the truck suffering from a gunshot wound. Pacheco-Rodriguez allegedly fired shots at the truck as the driver drove away.
The suspect is also under investigation for four counts of attempted murder. An investigation is ongoing.
