Donald Trump hosted a Super Bowl party at his Mar-a-Lago resort without wife Melania, it has been reported.

The former US President usually attends the event for the National Football League finale at his Trump International Golf Club party in Florida, which Melania usually attends.

But a video of Mr Trump arriving at the club showed him entering the club dressed formally, wearing a navy suit and a blue tie, and without his wife, The WashingtonExaminer reports.

“Good party, food was great, everyone was happy, and he seemed relaxed and in his element,” the Examiner reports being told by a guest.

The Critic reports that Melania's absence prompted "rumours of domestic discontentment" among guests at this year's party.

It adds that while at the party, Trump "offered polite but unsmiling hellos and was clearly uninterested in any real conversation".

Movie star Sylvester Stallone and his family were among around 200 guests at the $75-a-head Super Bowl party this year.

Mr Trump is reported to have eaten dinner, watched the first half of the game on the big screen and then left at halftime – although this is reportedly when he normally leaves the event.

The party was held just days before Donald Trump was due to create history by becoming the first US leader to be brought before an impeachment trial for a second time.

Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday's Super Bowl.

Last year Melania was in attendance at the Trump International Golf Club Super Bowl party, and videos were shared on social media of the couple walking into a room filled with Trump supporters.

A banner above a stage had Trump's face superimposed on a cartoon football player with the caption: "Red White & Blue: Celebrating Trump Kick-Off 2020 Victory."

In 2018, Trump and Melania threw a Super Bowl bash at the golf club featuring cheerleaders and a brass band playing Boogie Wonderland.

He and the First Lady were met with a marching band and dance troupe as they performed Hail to the Chief and Shut Up and Dance.

Trump told them: "Great job, great talent, enjoy the game."

Last month the Daily Star reported that Melania's reported move to establish a new office separate from her husband's "could well be preparatory steps for explaining to Donald that she’d like to separate".

Family mediator Louisa Whitney, of LKW Family Mediation, told the Daily Star that, while it's not unusual for someone to have been unhappy in a relationship for some time but to have stayed for a variety of reasons, there can be "preparations for the separation".

She says this includes purchasing new property, being sure a person will have an income in the event of a separation or setting up counselling for emotional support.

Louisa said: "Melania’s wish for a separate office could well be preparatory steps for explaining to Donald that she’d like to separate – she might be seeking to set up a role for herself that builds on the work she did as First Lady.

"She might also want to be setting up an identity for herself in her own right. It can be hard I think for anyone separating to establish themselves as just that person rather than part of a couple – especially if their partner was more high profile, more outgoing or better known than them."
