Jenna Jameson may have caught syndrome that left her unable to walk due to diet

Former porn star Jenna Jameson could have contracted a rare syndrome that left her unable to walk due to her adopting the controversial Keto diet, a dietician has claimed.

Jameson spent weeks throwing up before she was forced to go into hospital to be diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder, Guillain-Barré syndrome.

The 47-year-old was left almost bedbound when her condition worsened but is now receiving treatment and physiotherapy in hospital.

Jameson has reportedly been living the keto lifestyle since 2018, which sees people consume mainly meat and poultry.

The most common cause of contracting Guillain-Barré syndrome is a food-borne bacterium called campylobacter, found in undercooked poultry.

Registered dietician Brigitte Zeitlin believes that living on the high-fat and low-carbohydrate diet may have caused the condition and made her symptoms worse.

Speaking to the New York Post, Zeitlin said: “I do think it does play a role in how severe her symptoms are because she is likely undernourished given a severe keto diet.

“The amount of fruits and vegetables that she’s not taking in can also mean that she’s not getting in enough phytonutrients to keep her immune system strong to fight off the campylobacter before it got out of hand.

"If that is still the same type of keto she was following, yes, she would be undernourished.”

According to the NHS, Guillain-Barré syndrome is a very rare and serious condition that damages the nervous system.

The syndrome mainly affects the feet, hands and limbs, causing problems such as numbness, weakness and pain.

However, the condition can be treated and most people will eventually make a full recovery, although it can occasionally be life-threatening and some people are left with long-term problems.

Her partner Lior Bitton revealed Jameson’s condition through an Instagram video at the weekend.

Bitton spoke of how she had been throwing up for two weeks before going to the hospital.

He said: “Then she came back home and she couldn’t carry herself.

“Her muscles in her legs were very weak. So she wasn’t able to walk to the bathroom.

"She was falling on the way back or to the bathroom, I would have to pick her up and carry her to bed.

“And then within two days, it got really not so good, her legs started to not hold her, she wasn’t able to walk.”

Bitton also confirmed that Jameson was being treated with a high dose of immunoglobulin therapy and was undergoing physical therapy, but is still unable to stand on her legs.

Jameson later posted a video on Instagram to confirm the diagnosis and to assure fans it is not a result of her having a coronavirus vaccine.
