Lottery winner lost £560k winning ticket and made whole family search for it

A dad lost his lottery ticket worth £560,000 and launched a massive search with his family members after he realised he had won.

The resident of Dubbo West, New South Wales, Australia – whose name has not been released – scooped the AU$1million (£560,000) prize on Monday (February 27) as one of the four division one winners in the Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4264.

He'd bought the lucky ticket from the Dubbo West Post Office but, after realising his numbers had come in, it vanished.

Thankfully the search didn't last too long.

He told an official from The Lott: "Would you believe I lost the ticket at first.

"I had everyone looking for it. As it turns out, it was in my wallet the entire time!

"I can't believe it! I will share this win with my children and go on a trip with my partner!

"I've been playing for several years and the most I've won is $1,000 (£560)! 'Thank you so much."

Lea Callan, owner of the Dubbo West Post Office, said his team were "so excited" to have sold their first division one winning ticket.

"We couldn't believe it! We thought the news might've been a hoax email," he added.

There are actually systems in place for Aussie lottery winners to claim their prize if they lose their ticket, even if they're not a registered player.

Customers who reckon they've missed out on a big prize can fill out The Lott's lost and damaged ticket form and provide as much information as possible about the entry.

This includes where it was bought, how they paid for it and how many games they paid for.
