Emergency services have confirmed that a man has died in a devastating house fire that left a two-storey house a burnt out shell in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to a property on Blacklands Close in Saffron Walden, Essex at approximately 2.30am, reports Essex Live.
When they arrived, the house was reportedly 100 per cent alight.
Sadly, Essex Police have now confirmed that a man who was inside the two-storey house at the time has been pronounced dead.
Firefighters have been on the scene for much of today trying to extinguish the fire, which is now safely out.
However, despite investigation work, the fire's cause has not been confirmed.
Earlier today, an Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters are currently at the scene of a house fire in Saffron Walden after a neighbour called the fire service.
"On arrival, crews reported that a detached two-storey house was 100% alight.
"The roof of the property has collapsed and crews are currently working to extinguish the fire in sections.
'Major incident' declared at block of flats as 700 people evacuated after gas leak
"Our Urban Search and Rescue team has been called to assist."
Nearby residents were told to keep their doors and windows shut whilst the blaze was put out.
Photos taken at the scene show the house as a blackened shell, with fire crews still tackling the fire.
The man's death is being treated as unexplained, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
