Matt Hancock appears to breach Covid regulations AGAIN

EXCLUSIVE: Still not following the rules then Mr Hancock? Ex Health Secretary appears to breach Covid regulations AGAIN after he was spotted entering Tube station without a face mask

  • Ex-Health Secretary Matt Hancock was pictured not wearing a face covering
  • Mr Hancock, 43, apologised after he was confronted by members of the public
  • He had been heading to Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball at the O2 Arena in Greenwich

Disgraced former Health Secretary Matt Hancock appears to have breached Covid regulations again – this time by forgetting to wear his mask inside a Tube station.

The ex-minister, 43, apologised after he was seen without a face covering while entering an underground station in London on Saturday.

He had been watching Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball at the O2 Arena in Greenwich – one of a number of public appearances in recent weeks.

Mr Hancock was filmed in a steamy clinch with married aide and millionaire lobbyist Gina Coladangelo in his Whitehall office in June – spelling both the end of his time as a minister, and his 15-year marriage to wife Martha.

The infamous kiss broke social distancing guidelines, that he himself pushed for as Health Secretary, forcing him to step down.

And it now seems that Mr Hancock flouted the rules again, despite his previously high-profile role in assisting the management of the country’s pandemic response.

Mr Hancock was forced to resign for breaching social distancing guidelines after he was shown in CCTV footage kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo inside his ministerial office

Mr Hancock was spotted in North Greenwich station at around 10:45pm on Saturday December 11, after the festive music bash – and without a mask.

MailOnline understands he attended the Capital gig with his daughter, where his choice of outfit – a turtleneck – set tongues wagging.

One frustrated onlooker, who asked not be named, caught the maskless Mr Hancock on video, at the bottom of the escalators, before he had reached the turnstiles.

They said: ‘Everybody else in the station was wearing a mask – I think that’s why we took a double look.

‘We confronted him. He said sorry and put one on. I do question if he would have if we hadn’t confronted him.’

According to Transport for London’s website, it is a condition of carriage for passengers to wear face coverings correctly over their mouth and nose or they could be thrown off and risk a fine – starting at £200 and rising up to £6,400.

Transport for London (TfL) rules state that masks must be worn for the ‘full duration of journeys’ in the capital, including ‘inside stations’.

On November 30, the use of face coverings on public transport was reinstated into law as part of tougher rules to curb rising Covid cases.

A spokesman for Mr Hancock told MailOnline: ‘Matt was on his way to the tube and put his mask on as he was making his way into the tube station.

‘Matt is careful to wear his mask on the tube, which he travels on a lot, and is very sorry for not putting it on sooner in this case.’

The onlooker said they also challenged Mr Hancock about the recent revelations over Christmas parties at No10 – but he refused to comment.

Mr Hancock lost his job earlier this year when it emerged he and Gina Coladangelo were seeing each other despite her being his £15,000-a-year aide and them breaking social distancing rules that he had himself created.

The Hancocks, who met while they were both students at Oxford University and married in 2006, had lived with their daughter, 14, and two sons, 13 and eight, in London and West Suffolk until earlier this year when Mr Hancock’s affair was exposed.

The jaw-dropping footage was taken on May 6 – less than a fortnight before the Government relaxed safety rules including giving permission to hug.

The father-of-three ended his 15-year marriage to wife Martha and has pursued a relationship Ms Coladangelo, a former university friend who was also married with three children.

The pair, who met while studying at Oxford University, have been pictured together at public gatherings for nearly two years, with one image dating back to the Conservative Party Conference in September 2019.

In his resignation letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Hancock said ministers ‘owe it to people who have sacrificed so much in this pandemic to be honest when we have let them down’.

Earlier this week Mr Hancock was pictured holding hands with lover Gina on an early morning stroll just days after he publicly apologised for the affair and admitted the infamous kiss was ‘a failure of leadership’.

The West Suffolk MP has made several media appearances in recent weeks, including on ‘Good Morning Britain’ and ITV’s Peston.
