The First Lady and wife of US President Donald Trump criticised those who she felt were tarnishing her family’s name to “advance themselves”. During a 2018 interview with Fox News, host Sean Hannity asked what Melania found hardest to deal with since entering the White House. Melania claimed: “I would say the opportunists who are using my name or my family name to advance themselves, from comedians, to journalists, to performers and book writers.
“It doesn’t hurt. The problem is they are writing the history and it’s not correct.”
The First Lady has been a target for mockery from a wide range of people from comedians to social media users.
Last year, her Christmas decorations for the White House came under fire after they included red trees.
They were derided as “blood trees” and compared to the horror movie ‘The Shining’.
During her tour of Africa in 2018, comedian Jimmy Kimmel took aim at her choice of clothing.
He claimed her outfit was colonial-looking, he also said she looked happier there than with her husband.
The First Lady told Fox News: “They like to focus on the gossip and I would like them to focus on the substance and what we do, not just about nonsense.”
Melania was also criticised for her BeBest campaign as the cyber bullying element stood as it was compared to her husband’s Twitter outbursts.

Many social media users claimed the First Lady should use her campaign in the White House with Trump.
Speaking at the Family Online Safety Institutes annual conference last year, Melania said she was not “surprised” she was a target for criticism.
She claimed: “As I have said before, it is not news or surprising to me that critics in the media have chosen to ridicule me for speaking out on this issue—and that’s OK.
“I remain committed to tackling this topic because it will provide a better world for our children.

“And I hope that like I do, you will consider using their negative words as motivation to do all you can to bring awareness and understanding about responsible online behaviour.”
Despite the attacks, Melania’s attitude towards the media is temperate compared to her husband’s.
Trump has often used provocative speech about news outlets and journalists.
In the past he has described them as “fake news” and the “enemy of the people”
Melania also outlined how she tries to reign in her “fighter” husband.
She said: “I don’t agree with his tone sometimes and I tell him that.
“Sometimes he listens, sometimes he doesn’t. In the end it’s his decision. He knows the consequences. He’s an adult.”
Last week, the First Lady was met with protests as she visited the Boston Medical Centre (BMC) to highlight the case of drug-exposed babies as part of her Be Best initiative.
Hospital staff held signs outside the BMC while some wore white doctor’s coats that had ‘we really care do u?’ written on the back.
Melania learnt about a program where volunteers take part in cuddling babies going through drug withdrawal.
