Multiple stabbings reported in park as witnesses told to stay inside

A number of people have been injured after reports of multiple stabbings in a park on Boxing Day.

Witnesses reported seeing a large police and ambulance presence around Harrington Lane and Arena Park in Exeter, Devon following the incident at around 1.39pm, DevonLive Reports.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that officers were called to Arena Park at about 1.39pm on Saturday, December 26, to a report of "multiple stabbings".

People in the area at the time of the incident have reported seeing between 10 and 15 emergency service vehicles and were then told to stay inside for their own safety.

The Police National Air Service helicopter has also been spotted hovering over the area by people nearby.

Police have confirmed that a knife has been recovered from the scene and a man has since been detained and is currently in custody, adding that there is now no wider threat to the public.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police attended, firearms officers attended. A male has been detained and is currently in custody.

"A knife has been recovered. There is no wider threat to the public."

It is not currently known how many people have been injured. The police spokesperson said that no injuries are believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Radio Exe reports that police have been taking statements from witnesses, including some house-to-house enquiries.

The station says one person in the area told them they had received a knock at the door from the police, who asked if they had seen anything.
