Police investigate suspicious death in northwest Edmonton

Edmonton police say officers are investigating a suspicious death in the city’s northwest.

Police were in the area of 133 Avenue and 140 Street in the Wellington neighbourhood on Wednesday morning, where officers said they were investigating the death of a female.

Officers did not release any further details, but several police vehicles could be seen in the area.

A large area was cordoned off by police tape, including a portion of the roadway and the lawn outside of a nearby townhouse complex.

Several pylons were placed throughout the scene, on the lawn and next to items on the road.

Zack Hesp, who lives in the area, said he heard what he believes was a man and woman screaming at each other at around 4 a.m. He said he went back to bed because screaming was a regular occurrence in the area.

“We woke up this morning with the police at our door, asking us questions about what we heard, if we saw anything or noticed anything and I told him what happened. Then I came downstairs and there’s police tape everywhere.”

Hesp said police have been called to the area before, but adds it’s unnerving to have something like this happen so close to home.

“There’s a lot of instances where the cops were called,” he said.

“I’m worried for my family and my son obviously. It’s a little uneasy… Your family is right here and you want to protect them.”
