Prince William was left visibly upset after learning of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s plan to leave royal working life through a statement, an author has claimed.
According to the new book by royal author Christopher Andersen, Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan, the Duke of Cambridge swore on hearing the news.
Following news being leaked to the press, the Duke and Duchess took to Instagram to make the announcement.
The book claims staff heard William blurt out: “What the f*** do Harry and Meghan think they’re doing? My father will be furious.”
Before they heard his wife Kate Middleton responded: “Not to mention your grandparents.”
Harry and Meghan put out a statement on January 8 in 2020, which would later be dubbed as the announcement of Megxit.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had recently attended an event at Canada House just hours before the bombshell announcement.
The outfit Meghan was wearing, which was a tight brown sweater, ankle-length satin skirt, and matching stiletto heels, prompted Kate to remark “what a lovely outfit”, the book claims.

Kate then reportedly saw a headline on Closer magazine saying “Duchess Meghan and Prince Look Happier Than Ever” with the Duchess of Cambridge saying “they certainly do look happy.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated in the announcement their intention “to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent.”
The statement read: "We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

"This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.
"We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties.”
Queen's 'safety catch' for Harry and Meghan moving to US was 'wise', expert claims
Both Harry and Meghan continued on with their plans and moved to the US to start a life away from royal duties, but insisted they would still show support for the Queen and the family.

The decision reportedly upset Harry and prompted the duke to ask for a face to face meeting with the Queen.
In the book, Andersen wrote: “Meghan watched as his mood shifted in an instant from surprise, to confusion, to simmering rage. Erased. That was the first word that came to mind.
‘“He felt,” said one of his oldest confidantes, ‘as if he, Meghan, and Archie were being erased from the family.’ Erased—and punished.”
Kensington Palace has been contacted for comment.
