Royal fans joke over ‘Elton John’ leading ‘beautiful’ tribute at Queen’s funeral

Wisecracking royal fans have joked that Sir ‘Elton John’ was leading a prayer at the Queen’s funeral.

As part of the historic mourning ceremony, a bishop who was part of the funeral party took to the front of Westminster Abbey to read a prayer to the grieving family of the late Queen.

With thick blond hair and large square-rimmed glasses, she gave a beautifully read speech, paying respects to the King and his loved ones.

As ever though, the internet was on hand to crack jokes, with users saying she looked very similar to the legendary Rocketman singer.

“Such a beautiful tribute by Elton John for Her Majesty’s funeral”, said @kyleminall.

@Cdn_Crippler said: “Nice of Elton John to speak today.”

Translated from French, @TL_293 said: “He's everywhere Elton John”.

In reality, the prayer wasn’t read by Elton John, but rather Sarah Mullally, the Bishop of London, who gave a prayer to King Charles and the royal family.

The high-ranking member of the church’s official title is The Right Reverend and Right Honourable Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, Bishop of London and Dean of His Majesty's Chapels Royal.

In her prayer, she said: “Let us pray for His Majesty The King and all the Royal Family; that they may know the sustaining power of God's love and the prayerful fellowship of God's people.

“Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech thee to bless our most gracious Sovereign Lord King Charles, Camilla The Queen Consort, William Prince of Wales, and all the Royal Family: endue them with thy Holy Spirit, enrich them with thy heavenly grace; prosper them with all happiness; and bring them to thine everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

The touching tribute came as part of the funeral’s order of service, which included prayers, music and readings in a spectacular honouring of the late monarch.

After the funeral, the Queen is to be taken to Windsor, where she will be buried alongside her beloved Prince Philip.

The burial service will be done privately, with the family of the Queen present.
