A Russian politician and military general has called for a missile strike against the UK that "would be the end" of the Queen and the Royal Family.
Making an appearance on Russian state-controlled Channel 1, hardliner Andrey Gurulev, 54, also claimed that the fastest way for Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine conflict would be by using hypersonic missiles to "wipe out the British Isles".
The lieutenant general, who served as a Russian tank commander, also laid out exactly how he thinks military action against the UK would bring about the dissolution of the monarchy.

He said: "Let’s make it super simple. Two ships, 50 launches of Zircon [missiles] – and there is not a single power station left in the UK.
"Fifty more Zircons – and the entire port infrastructure is gone.
"One more – and we forget about the British Isles. A Third World country, destroyed and fallen apart because Scotland and Wales would leave.
"This would be the end of the British Crown. And they are scared of it."
Gurulev's comments came as the Russian invasion faces another stumbling block – a major Ukrainian counter-offensive in the south of the country.
Ukrainian officials had been hinting at the move for two months and finally made it this week when President Volodymyr Zelenksyy announced plans to recapture the city of Kherson.

In a stark warning to Russian forces, he said: "If they want to survive, it is time for Russian soldiers to flee. Go home."
