There will be intermittent nighttime closures of U.S. Highway 6 through Clear Creek Canyon coming in the next four weeks. Starting Monday, Jefferson and Clear Creek counties — or people traveling through them — will have to be aware that a major road could be closed through mid-March.
U.S. Highway 6 is scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., as follows:
- Feb. 15-18 (Monday through Thursday nights) between U.S. Highway 40 junction (east of Interstate 70 interchange) and Colorado Highway 119.
- Detour to Black Hawk/Central City is U.S. 6 between Golden and CO 119
And 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday:
- Feb. 21-24, Feb. 28-March 3 and March 7-10 between Colorado Highway 58 in Golden and the Colorado Highway 119 junction.
- Detour is I-70 west to Exit 244 (U.S. Highway 6/bottom of Floyd Hill) and east on U.S. Highway 6 to Colorado Highway 119.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says the work is expected to take about four weeks; adverse weather could impact the schedule.
Clear Creek Canyon will be open during the day, evenings and weekends. CDOT doesn’t anticipate significant traffic impacts since work is taking place at night.
The work is for tunnel repairs in the canyon.
